About Us

The property was originally bought by Joe and Julie Powell.  The construction of the house began in 1982 and was designed as both a residence and a place of business by way of entertaining the Powell's elite horse buying clientele.  The original designs for the house included hotel-like guest bedrooms and a third floor ballroom for entertaining.  The lavish designs include a freestanding, unsupported three story helix stairway, full sized commercial elevator, six fireplaces and totaling close to 30,000 square feet overall.

The original architects were Gerald Stone and Russell Bates of The Architectural Collective.  Gerald Stone has since retired from the firm. The Bates architectural firm, including Russel Bates, and his son Michael are currently engaged with this project.

The original plans included quite a number of stones and marbles from several quarries across the nation as well as all custom made windows and doors.  Both a structural steel staircase and the decorative ironworks gates were manufactured and custom crafted by the Earnest Wieman Foundry from Oklahoma City.  This foundry is nationally famous for national and international projects and most famous being the gates at Graceland.

The Powell's installed and pipe and cable fencing to include the double stallion runs on the entire 72+ acres at a cost of $750,000.  The property had an old farmhouse on site, this is where the Powell's lived during the construction of the Equestrian Center and later during the construction of the home.

The barn complex was completed first at a cost of approximately $2.5 million dollars.  The ornate gate, built in the mid 1980's, was made in the same materials and style as the house and the equestrian center was built at a cost of $120,000 dollars.
